Lakaija Owens, BA
Clinical Psychology Doctoral Trainee
Lakaija Owens is a graduate student at Northern Arizona University pursuing a degree in clinical psychology. She is under the supervision of Dr. Linsey Lancellotti. She has worked as a behavioral technician for three years in group home settings. A major focus of her work has been solution-based treatment plans and helping her clients reach their full potential.
Lakaija has her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Arizona State University. She has a certification in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), has completed a Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy Externship, and has taken classes for person-centered therapy, emotion-focused therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and couples/family counseling.
Lakaija uses experiences from her background and various settings she has worked within to help clients in a way that fits their needs and wants. She uses an integrative approach in therapy to allow her clients to be expressive and not confined to any one method.
Lakaija is an African-American woman and was raised by a single mom in Milwaukee, WI. Growing up, her family and friends were exposed to unimaginable circumstances. They solved their problems by going to church and putting their faith in God. As she grew older, she realized they needed more help than what was provided to them regarding mental health. She took it upon herself to move to Arizona and pursue a psychology degree so that she could learn at a doctoral level and help underserved communities get the help they need.
